It is the responsibility of the cask owner to advise Baoilleach Distillery of any changes in address or other information relevant to the management and safekeeping of the purchaser cask.
New Make Sample Bottle
One 500ML bottle of the New Make spirit will be made available to members upon cask filling, one bottle per cask purchased. Duty and Vat will be paid by the distillery, postage is free within Ireland, International postage will incur additional charges. Additional bottles may be available if excess spirit is available, but bottles will be charged at retail costs.
Single Potstill G.I
Baoilleach Distillery’s - Potstill Irish Whiskey will be produced outside the rules of the present Single Potstill Irish Whiskey G.I.
Baoilleach Distillery will use above the 5% alternative grains content that the present G.I rules allow, although these rules are expected to change to allow for the present Baoilleach Distillery Potstill mash bill, use of the words “Single Potstill Irish Whiskey” or “Potstill Irish Whiskey on bottle labels cannot be guaranteed.
Insurance & Storage
Storage and insurance will be provided free of charge for 5 years. Cask Storage is in our on-site warehouse. After this free 5-year period a storage and insurance fee will apply.
Baoilleach Distillery will need 1 month’s advance notice if an cask owner wishes to remove a cask from our bonded warehouse.
Distillery & Cask Visits
All cask owners are very welcome to visit the distillery at any time but due to the small nature of the distillery visits are by appointment only. Please provide a minimum of 5 working days notice if you plan a visit, dependant on the working schedule of the distillery not all planned visits can be facilitated on the days requested.
Cask samples
One 100ml Cask sample can be drawn from your cask free of charge per year, Irish alcohol duty and VAT will be due on all cask samples, to be paid by the cask owners. Extra samples can be drawn on request but will be subject to a labour fee.
Postage of cask samples within Ireland is free, all international postage will be subject to an extra fee, Baoilleach Distillery is not responsible for customs and duty in international postage destinations.
Physical Cask Ownership
Once Baoilleach Distillery has been paid for a Cask, the Physical Cask belongs to the Cask owner, first refusal to purchase the emptied cask after maturation would be appreciated by Baoilleach Distillery.
Bottling & Labelling
Baoilleach Distillery will need to be informed 3 months prior to a member’s desired bottling date. Bottling and labelling will be charged at approx. €3.50 per bottle, this includes, bottle, distillery label, bottle closure and case box, this €3.50 per bottle fee may change with inflation.
Bottling ABV will be at the members discretion but the minimum bottling abv will be 44%.
If a cask owner wishes to choose a non-standard distillery bottle or label - extra charges may be due but the distillery will do so at cost and help cask owners wherever possible.
Label changes needed for bottles destined for international markets may be subject to extra fee’s.
Small loses of liquid may occur during the bottling process.
After Maturation and bottling, whether done on-site or off-site - cask owners can use one of Baoilleach Distillery’s labels or they can use their own custom label, custom labels using the distillery’s name will need to be approved by the distillery.
Certificate of Ownership
After purchasing a cask, the owner will be presented with a personalised Baoilleach Distillery Cask Ownership Certificate with all details related to your cask.
Transfer of Ownership
If an cask owner wishes to transfer the title of ownership, Baoilleach distillery will need to be notified in writing and certain security procedures will need to be fulfilled.
Cask Costs
The initial Cask cost as listed in the pricing document will cover the cask, spirit and 5 years storage and insurance. Prices Quoted are per cask under bond, the cask purchaser is solely responsible for the payment of Irish Excise/Alcohol Duty, bottling costs, shipping cost, Irish VAT, transferral to other bonded warehouses, taxes and customs duties If shipped to other jurisdictions outside of the Rep. of Ireland.
Alcohol Duty
Alcohol duty has to be paid by cask purchasers before casks/bottles can be removed from Baoilleach Distillery’s bonded warehouse. Alcohol duty at present is €42.57 per litre of pure alcohol, this rate is subject to government change. Alcohol duty can be suspended if casks/bottles are being transported to another duty suspended bonded warehouse in Ireland or abroad. The organisation and cost of transferal-transportation to another bonded warehouse is at the owner’s expense. The cask purchaser is solely responsible for the payment of Alcohol Duty when spirit is removed from our bonded warehouse.
VAT
All VAT is payable before casks/bottles can be removed from Baoilleach Distillery’s bonded warehouse. VAT at 23% (subject to change) is payable on the cumulative cost of the spirits.
Initial Cask Cost + Alcohol Duty + Bottling Cost = Full Cost x VAT 23% = Full Cost including VAT
VAT can be suspended if casks/bottles are being transported to another duty suspended bonded warehouse in Ireland or abroad. The organisation and cost of transferal-transportation to another bonded warehouse is at the owner’s expense.
The cask purchaser is solely responsible for the payment of VAT when spirit is removed from our bonded warehouse.
Changes to Cask ABV
The distillery’s main aim for a cask is to provide the highest quality new make spirit to fill into an owners chosen casks, depending on the individual mash fermentations and distillation process spirit abv may vary from cask to cask.
Cask Size
Due to the nature of cask construction, exact volumes can not be guaranteed, if a cask volume is + or – 3% in terms of quoted cask volume, Baoilleach Distillery may ask to payment for extra spirit or may provide a repayment to the cask owner for spirit which has not been filled into the cask.
Angles Share
During maturation alcohol evaporates from the cask, the first year may have up to a 4% loss in spirit abv and between 2-2.5% on going per annum. This is what’s known as the Angles share, losses in excess or below these rates may occur and will ultimately depend on each individual cask, Baoilleach Distillery cannot be held responsible for these natural losses, this loss in alcohol is a natural part of Irish Whiskey Maturation.
Re-Casking
If a cask owner wishes to transfer their spirit into a different cask then the one provided by Baoilleach Distillery, the distillery needs to be notified in writing with the details of the new cask and a cask transfer fee will be payable. The original cask will be the owners property.
Shared Ownership Casks
When a cask has multiple owners, Baoilleach Distillery will not act on any request until all cask owners have agreed in writing to that request.
